The English Team to Begin the European Championship 2028 Campaign at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they attain the anticipated passage for a competition staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Ireland.
The Etihad Stadium has not hosted an English men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.
England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at the national stadium, but, if they top Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Launch and Rally
The event was launched at an gathering in Piccadilly Circus on the previous evening. Senior figures from Uefa and the host football associations were heckled as they approached the location by about 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who urged Israel to be expelled from global football because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were displayed with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will feature the Welsh team if they make it.
The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5pm.
It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for UEFA Champions League finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to families and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.
Qualifying Teams
The Ireland are due to play their first game at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will enter the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for the tournament through the standard process.
Venues and Playoffs
Villa Park and Spurs’ ground round out the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one playoff fixture, with the quarterfinal matches played at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“This will be a tournament for the supporters and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its fervor and power to foster unity.”
Over 3 million passes, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are expected to be released to attendees.
