Person That Touched Ariana Grande during Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped past a barrier and touched actress Ariana Grande has been expelled and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in jail for being a public nuisance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to Singaporean press.
He forced his way through camera crews and rushed toward the performer and artist, who was present at the regional launch for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in the past June.
The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with several individuals accusing him of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a explosive incident at her show in Manchester in spring of 2017 took the lives of 22 people and injured hundreds.
In the legal process, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to Singaporean media.
He then made a another effort to breach security. Event security stopped him and pinned him down.
The man subsequently shared recordings expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "released."
Police took him into custody the next day and charged him with disorderly conduct, to which the man admitted guilt.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was quoted by Channel News Asia as stating that the man sought attention, noting that he was incorrect to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
Grande has not addressed the incident.
The co-star discussed the event to a media outlet, remarking that she "just wanted to make sure my co-star was secure."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I wanted to make sure that she was OK. That was my initial reaction," she said.
