The sport of boxing has been a real slump this season, with limited compelling matchups and markedly reduced engaging contests than typical. The prospect of a serious and intriguing heavyweight battle between Joseph Parker and Wardley at the iconic O₂ Arena offers a welcome respite to the challenged industry. Parker, who turns 34 in January, said: “This is do or die. I am not focused on a loss. I respect my opponent and what he has done and his preparation for this bout. But I am on a different level and I am intending to prove it on the day of the bout.”

Wardley will be 31 in December, and he said: “It's a huge evening for the pair of us. It is undoubtedly the largest contest of my boxing journey and the biggest fight of my life. But every time I step up I excel under pressure. This Saturday will be no different. The separation between where Joe is and where people think I am has been a recurring narrative during my entire career.

“He has vast experience for a extended duration, with a lot of fights on his record. By no means is he an old man but he has been in the sport for a long time and had some heavy fights. I've also endured brutal fights and I know they put miles on the clock. He has been in a significantly more of those than me.”
