Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the American officials has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
