Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received significant backing from above,” the coach commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
